Toronto Film Festival – Digital Edition

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the 45th edition of the Toronto Film Festival will go ahead as scheduled, but in a “reimagined physical and digital” form. Ziyi will serve as one of the many ambassadors of the upcoming edition.

For 2020, TIFF will be welcoming TIFF Ambassadors, 50 celebrated filmmakers and actors invited to help TIFF deliver a strong Festival this year for the film industry. They will include Ava DuVernay, Darren Aronofsky, Taika Waititi, Anurag Kashyap, Nicole Kidman, Martin Scorsese, Nadine Labaki, Alfonso Cuarón, Tantoo Cardinal, Riz Ahmed, Rian Johnson, Jason Reitman, Isabelle Huppert, Claire Denis, Atom Egoyan, Priyanka Chopra, Viggo Mortensen, Zhang Ziyi, David Oyelowo, Lulu Wang, Rosamund Pike, Sarah Gadon, and Denis Villeneuve, to name a few.

TIFF – Awards Ceremony

The awards ceremony of the 2016 Toronto Film Festival took place earlier today and Ziyi was there to announce the Platform Jury Prize that went to Pablo Larrain’s Jackie.

The Toronto Film Festival had the chance to have Ziyi on their red carpet again yesterday. She attended the premiere screening of the American comedy drama film “The Edge of Seventeen“.

TIFF – Day 8

Ziyi was quite busy yesterday at the Toronto Film Festival. First, she sat down for some interviews and then, she was photographed by Matt Barnes in the TIFF Photo Studio.

In the evening, the actress attended A Conversation With… At the moment, we only have some pictures of the interview, but we should be able to watch it in the next few days if we’re lucky.

TIFF – NKPR IT House and HFPA InSyle Events

Yesterday, Ziyi attended two events during the Toronto International Film Festival. The First one was at IT Lounge for the W Magazine NKPR IT House x Producers Ball Studio event. She was photographed with Pedro Almodovar‘s last film muses Rossy de Palma and Adriana Ugarte.


Secondly, she went to the Windsor Arms Hotel for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and InStyle’s Annual Celebration of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Ziyi joins Platform competition jury at TIFF

It looks like Ziyi is going to stay a little longer in Toronto this September. The jury for the Platform competition was unveiled today and Ziyi is one of the three jurors.

The Toronto International Film Festival® today announced the jury for Platform, the programme that champions directors’ cinema from around the world. For the programme’s second year, its three-person international jury will be composed of legendary directors Brian De Palma and Mahamat-Saleh Haroun and acclaimed actor Zhang Ziyi. Together, they will award a prize of $25,000 to the best Platform selection, to be announced at the Festival Awards Ceremony on September 18.

Here’s what the director and CEO of TIFF, Piers Handling, had to say about it:

“We are honoured to have De Palma, Haroun, and Zhang on the Platform Jury for the programme’s second year. Each one of them brings a breadth of expertise and experience in visionary filmmaking, artistic direction, and unprecedented, bold narratives,” said Piers Handling, Director and CEO of TIFF. “We are thankful to our esteemed jury for making the time to be here this September to celebrate our renewed commitment to artistically ambitious filmmaking with Platform.”
