Cannes Film Festival – Day 3

The third day of Ziyi at Cannes this year started with an amazing news. She attended a short press conference to announce her participation at the 3nd Tokyo Film Festival, starting on October 28 and closing on November 5. She will serve as the chairman of the jury of this prestigious film festival. Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige and Gong Li were also chairmen in the past, making Ziyi the fourth Chinese to occupy this high position.

Hollywood Reporter reported the news and included some worth mentioning details from the press conference.

TIFF director Takeo Hisamatsu called Ziyi “one of the leading actresses in the world” and said her performance in legendary Japanese director Seijun Suzuki’s final film Princess Raccoon (2005) had “earned her many Japanese fans.”

Zhang recalled her first trip to Tokyo with her first feature, Zhang Yimou’s The Road Home (1999), which went on to win a Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. “I was immensely touched by the warmth of the reception and witnessed first-hand the love and passion that Japan has for the art of moviemaking,” she said.

Cannes Film Festival – Day 2

Ziyi was once again the center of attention at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday. She appeared full of joy and charm in a dress by Azzaro at the photocall of the extensive interview she will have tomorrow Rendez-vous with Zhang Ziyi. Tons of pictures of the event should be added regularly as the show up. For now, you can enjoy the few great shots we have, as well as a video from the official youtube account of the festival.

Later during the day, she walked on the red carpet of Quentin Taratino’s last film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. She was wearing a gorgeous dress by Zuhair Mahid with a PRITCH London black leather belt.

As planned, Ziyi showed up at the special screening of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon where she made a short speech and presented the movie. Some pictures of this event should be added later with any luck.

Cannes Film Festival – Day 1

Ziyi attended two events yesterday at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival. First, she walked the red carpet of La belle époque wearing a beautiful Givenchy dress.

Later in the evening, she attended the ceremony of the Chopard trophy as the Godmother of the event. She looked splendid in a red Versace dress.

Ziyi just arrived at Cannes

Her last visit at the Cannes Film Festival was in 2014. Today, she was photographed arriving on the Côte d’Azur. She was beautiful and so stylish. Enjoy the pictures of her arrival before the next fews days…

Godzilla: King of the Monsters LA Premiere

Ziyi was turning all heads yesterday in Los Angeles when she attended the premiere of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. She made quite a surprise appearance in the United States between Beijing events and her participation in Cannes this year. Tons of pictures are now in the gallery. You can watch a video of the red carpet below.

Chinese mega-star Zhang Ziyi, who made her name internationally in Oscar-winning Director Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon,” said working on such a special effects-heavy movie was a new experience. “Yeah I think for me it is very new to only act with nothing but a green screen so everything you have to imagine,” she told Reuters at the premiere.

A huge name in Chinese and world cinema, Zhang said she had avoided making movies in Hollywood in recent years because of a lack of good parts for Chinese actresses. “That’s why I haven’t been back in Hollywood for so long because I often get scripts (but) they are not so … the characters are not so rich but this one is different,” she said, of her role in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” “That’s why I’m very happy about this offer and the director really respected me and gave my character a lot of emotions,” she added.

Asian Film and TV Week Opening Ceremony

Yesterday, Ziyi appeared at another event in Beijing. This time she was present at the opening ceremony of the Asian Film and TV Week. A film festival promoting asian films from all over the continent.

I also uploaded a video of the opening ceremony in which Ziyi talks about her career and the take on asian films in the world:
Zhang said an influential film should be rooted in its own culture but narrated in a way that appeals to domestic and outbound markets.” Source

Godzilla: King of the Monsters Beijing Premiere

Yesterday, Ziyi was in Beijing to participate in the Chinese premiere of Godzilla: King of the Monsters with director Michael Dougherty and co-stars Millie Bobby Brown and Vera Farmiga.

The first reactions from the press and audiences during early screenings were pretty enthusiastic and seemed to imply a big improvement from the 2014 Godzilla movie. Read more about it here.

Ziyi at the Cannes Film Festival

The actress will finally be back in France for the Cannes Film Festival and will attend, at least, three events…

The actress will be Godmother of the Trophée Chopard on May 20 at 7:00 PM.

As godmother, Zhang will present the award to both a male and female young actor on the rise. She follows “Godmother” Diane Kruger, who presented the award to Joe Alwyn and Elizabeth Debicki at Cannes film Festival 2018.
