The wait is almost finally over, the first television series ever with Ziyi Monarch Industry, apparently now titled The Rebel Princess, is about to stream on Youku tomorrow January 9th at 10am in China. A few different posters were released and an official trailer is finally here.
Here’s the second episode of the third season of I Am an Actor. Check it out!

The first episode of I Am An Actor Season 3 aired yesterday. This season Ziyi is still a member of the jury.
Do not forget to watch this beautiful video promo of Ziyi’s career made for I Am An Actor.
Yesterday Ziyi attended the 3rd Hainan Island International Film Festival Closing Ceremony.

As the official ambassador of the 3rd Hainan International Film Festival, a video of Ziyi introducing the festival was just released.

Ziyi announced yesterday that she will serve as an official ambassador at this year’s Hainan Film Festival. The opening ceremony will be on December 5th.

Ziyi was in Shanghai again to promote Clé de Peau Beauté. She also accepted an interview for Teacher Xu that you can watch in the Video Archives.

Ziyi made her first public appearance of the year in Shanghai. She was photographed on the red carpet of a Lanvin event. Some pictures and two videos were added.

Another magazine cover for Ziyi. This time, she is featured on the cover of the Chinese edition of Harper’s Bazaar. The artsy black & white photoshoot is the work of famous fashion photographer Chen Man. Enjoy!
On another note, Ziyi was nominated at the 35th Hundred Flowers Awards for her acting in The Climbers. Unsurprisingly, the film didn’t receive a nomination for Best Picture.

Vogue China just published the pictures and the cover for its September edition in which Ziyi poses for a gorgeous and artsy photoshoot by Russian photographer Elizaveta Porodina. A short film promoting the magazine was also released.
It was rumoured a while ago. Ziyi’s characters in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the “Mothra Twins”, were supposed to reunite in a post-credit scene that was never filmed. Director Michael Dougherty posted the concept art of the scene on his Instagram.
The artwork shows the character of Doctor Ilene Chen, played by Zhang Ziyi, walking through a ramen bar towards a secret tunnel. There she meets with her twin sister Doctor Ling Chen, and they have a brief conversation. Then Ilene Chen enters a room containing the egg of the noble kaiju Mothra, being taken care of by her twin daughters.
The full importance of this scene will be readily apparent to those versed in early Godzilla movies lore. Traditionally, Mothra was depicted as a deity and protector of a group of humans living on an island. Mothra interacted with the islanders through the Shobijin, which refers to twin sisters who have the ability to commune with Mothra.
While the lore of the Shobjin was not explored in King of the Monsters, the post-credit scene would have confirmed they were indeed a part of the movie. It would have also confirmed that the responsibility of taking care of the Mothra egg has been passed on from Doctor Chen and her twin sister to her twin daughters, who are the new Shobjin.
Instead, the special relationship between the two Chen sisters and Mothra was only hinted at in the film. However, with the reveal of the scrapped post-credits scene, Dougherty has pretty much confirmed that a reborn Mothra will be making an appearance in the next film in the series.
To read more about it, check the article on MovieWeb.
Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the 45th edition of the Toronto Film Festival will go ahead as scheduled, but in a “reimagined physical and digital” form. Ziyi is part of the ambassadors of the upcoming edition.

A teaser trailer for The Climbers was just released during the 22nd Shanghai Film Festival.
The Hollywood Reporter shared some details.
The actor, China’s reigning box-office king thanks to mega-blockbusters Wolf Warrior 2 and The Wandering Earth, bounded to the stage at a packed gala hosted by Shanghai Film Group to unveil the first official trailer for his next action spectacle.
The Climbers dramatizes the real-life expedition of Chinese mountaineers Wang Fuzhou, Gonpo and Qu Yinhua, who made a historic ascent up Mount Everest’s North Ridge in 1960. The Chinese team was the first to successfully climb Everest’s north side, which is known to be especially perilous. The trio famously left a small statue of Chairman Mao atop the summit before returning midway down the mountain to heroically rescue a fourth member of their team who was unable to complete the mission.
The filmmakers also unveiled the release date for The Climbers. The film has lined up a nationwide release on Sept. 30, prime positioning on the eve of China’s patriotic National Day holiday period from Oct. 1-Oct. 7, which is expected to generate a box-office bonanza.
Ziyi was still in Shanghai tonight to attend the 2019 Weibo Movie Awards. Her movie The Climbers won the award of the Most Anticipated Film while Ziyi accepted the prize of the Most Influential Actress.
Yesterday and today, the cast and the crew of The Climbers attended the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival. The director Daniel Lee, the producer Tsui Hark and the cast members Wu Jing, Hu Ge, Zhang Yi, Jing Boran and Ziyi walked the red carpet of the opening ceremony of the festival.

Ziyi later walked the red carpet of a fashion show organized by VogueFilm.

During her stay in Cannes, Ziyi attended a special ceremony organized by Caroline Scheufele to make a special announcement, that Ziyi is the new global ambassador of Chopard, the official partner of the Cannes Film Festival. Malaysia Tatler reported the news today.

Ziyi is still busy in Cannes this year giving interviews for various Chinese news media. You can now watch three different interviews she probably gave yesterday.
Ziyi shared a lot yesterday during this masterclass, about her career and herself. She mainly talked about working of films like 2046, The Grandmaster, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but a few others too. Some highlights of the interview were transcribed on the official website of the Cannes Festival.
About her fighting spirit:
I was born into a very traditional family. My mother worked in a maternity hospital and my father was an economist for the government. I didn’t grow up in luxury. My parents worked hard to bring us up and we did not have many activities. I don’t remember my parents encouraging me a lot or saying “I love you.” They have always been demanding with me even though I have won many awards in my career. This has taught me to be demanding of myself. Most of the roles I have interpreted have this perseverence as a a common theme. On the filming of Yi dai zong shi (The Grandmaster):
This film shoot was the most demanding of my whole career up until now. I was in a very anxious and melancholy period of my life. I remember asking for a day off in the middle of the filming, which was complicated because it would cost a lot of money. But Wong Kar-wai agreed. He knew that I was not feeling well and he showed himself to be very understanding. Today he is a very close friend. I could play any role for him.

Hollywood Reporter reported the news and included some worth mentioning details from the press conference.
TIFF director Takeo Hisamatsu called Ziyi “one of the leading actresses in the world” and said her performance in legendary Japanese director Seijun Suzuki’s final film Princess Raccoon (2005) had “earned her many Japanese fans.”
Zhang recalled her first trip to Tokyo with her first feature, Zhang Yimou’s The Road Home (1999), which went on to win a Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. “I was immensely touched by the warmth of the reception and witnessed first-hand the love and passion that Japan has for the art of moviemaking,” she said.

Ziyi attended two events yesterday at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival. First, she walked the red carpet of La belle époque wearing a beautiful Givenchy dress.
Later in the evening, she attended the ceremony of the Chopard trophy as the Godmother of the event. She looked splendid in a red Versace dress.

Her last visit at the Cannes Film Festival was in 2014. Today, she was photographed arriving on the Côte d’Azur. She was beautiful and so stylish. Enjoy the pictures of her arrival before the next fews days…

Ziyi was turning all heads yesterday in Los Angeles when she attended the premiere of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. She made quite a surprise appearance in the United States between Beijing events and her participation in Cannes this year. Tons of pictures are now in the gallery. You can watch a video of the red carpet below.
Ziyi talked to Reuters during her stay in Los Angeles. (Source)
Chinese mega-star Zhang Ziyi, who made her name internationally in Oscar-winning Director Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon,” said working on such a special effects-heavy movie was a new experience. “Yeah I think for me it is very new to only act with nothing but a green screen so everything you have to imagine,” she told Reuters at the premiere.
A huge name in Chinese and world cinema, Zhang said she had avoided making movies in Hollywood in recent years because of a lack of good parts for Chinese actresses. “That’s why I haven’t been back in Hollywood for so long because I often get scripts (but) they are not so … the characters are not so rich but this one is different,” she said, of her role in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” “That’s why I’m very happy about this offer and the director really respected me and gave my character a lot of emotions,” she added.

Yesterday, Ziyi appeared at another event in Beijing. This time she was present at the opening ceremony of the Asian Film and TV Week. A film festival promoting asian films from all over the continent.
I also uploaded a video of the opening ceremony in which Ziyi talks about her career and the take on asian films in the world:
“Zhang said an influential film should be rooted in its own culture but narrated in a way that appeals to domestic and outbound markets.” Source

Yesterday, Ziyi was in Beijing to participate in the Chinese premiere of Godzilla: King of the Monsters with director Michael Dougherty and co-stars Millie Bobby Brown and Vera Farmiga.
The first reactions from the press and audiences during early screenings were pretty enthousiastic and tend to imply a big improvement from the 2014 Godzilla movie. Read more about it here.

The actress will finally be back in France for the Cannes Film Festival and will attend, at least, three events…
The actress will be Godmother of the Trophée Chopard on May 20 at 7:00 PM.
As godmother, Zhang will present the award to both a male and female young actor on the rise. She follows “Godmother” Diane Kruger, who presented the award to Joe Alwyn and Elizabeth Debicki at Cannes film Festival 2018.
Source
Then, she will introduce a special screening of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on May 21 at 9:30 PM.
Ziyi will attend an event called “Rendez-vous” on May 22 at
A new TV commercial was released today to promote baby milk products by the Chinese company Feihe. Enjoy that video below!

Just found a very interesting article written by renowned Singapore-born American photographer Russel Wong that is more than worth checking. It was posted about a year ago on Singaporian website YP.
In this article, Russel Wong describes the experience he had working with Ziyi when she was still very young and just starting in the business. He then shared some details about the few occasions he had photo sessions with her, as well as the friendship they developed over the years.
Even then, she had a twinkle in her eye and we were both ready to conquer the world! The rest, as they would say – is history. This would be one of the most important meetings I would have as it was a start to a long working relationship, numerous covers, movies and more importantly – a friendship.
Click here to read the whole interview.
We haven’t heard much about these two movies during the principal photography, but it seems the post-production on both Climbers and Godzilla vs. Kong just started.
The director Adam Wingard confirmed a few hours ago that the principal photography of Godzilla vs. Kong was now completed on his instagram account.
On April 8th, a crew member of Climbers annouced via his weibo that the filming had just wrapped in Tianjin and posted some selfies with the cast.
The Hollywood Reporter finally confirmed the participation of Ziyi in the Chinese blockbuster Climbers directed by Daniel Lee. She will star as the meteorologist alongside Wu Jing, Jackie Chan, Hu Ge and Jing Boran. The filming is currently underway and it shouldn’t be too long before we see some pictures of footages of the film.
The film will dramatize the real-life expedition of Chinese climbers Wang Fuzhou, Gonpo and Qu Yinhua, who made a historic ascent up Mount Everest’s North Ridge in 1960. The Chinese team was the first to successfully climb Everest’s north side, which is known to be especially perilous. The trio famously left a small statue of Chairman Mao atop the summit before returning midway down the mountain to rescue a fourth member of their team who was unable to complete the climb.
Alongside Wu and Chan, the two other climbers in the group will be played by popular young actor Jing Boran (Monster Hunt, Us and Them) and television star Hu Ge (Chinese Paladin, 1911). Actress Zhang Ziyi rounds out the star-studded cast as a Chinese meteorologist who assists the mission.

Yesterday, Ziyi attended the 10th Macau International Movie Festival. The actress won the Best Actress prize for her role in Forever Young.

Zhejiang TV announced yesterday its line-up for 2019. Ziyi’s first drama is now official and we know a bit more information about the plot thanks to cfensi.
Wang Xuan / Ah Wu (Zhang Ziyi) is an intelligent young lady of the noble Wang clan who is born with the prophecy that “whoever enlists her will be able to rule the world” (not again), and is forced to marry Xiao Qi (Zhou Yiwei), a general from a humble background.
Initially a political union, it turns into a relationship built upon trust and love as Wang Xuan wholeheartedly supports her husband’s ambitions. Xiao Qi originally viewed his wife as a pawn in the bid for power, but is impressed by her political acumen and begins to treat her as his equal.
Forced apart due to the Empress Dowager’s schemes, Wang Xuan and Xiao Qi lead separate armies, eventually defeat the Southern rebels and unify the warring kingdoms, but must come to terms with the fact that the road to the pinnacle of power is bloody and filled with betrayal and deception. Wang Xuan is ultimately forced to choose between her husband’s conquest and the family she holds dear.

Their first public appearance was at an Eason Chen concert. In the documentary Existence, Wang Feng explained that their story could have ended:
I remembered 6 mounths after we met we had some sort of fight. She was ignoring me, she refused to take my calls and everything. At that time I was like a child. I thought it was over. I sent her a million messages. I cried about my feelings, it was complicated. What if she left?
